Hey folks,
My 2005 E60 is making annoying noise when I tilt it up and down. When I do a telescopic movement, there is no noise. I suspect it requires lubrication (WD40) on the mechanic part.
Here is a video of the noise I recorded a short while ago. Please tell me a solution to fix this.
I tried to open the lower half of dash console (footwell under steering), and after removing 4-5 screws I could not get it out to have a look. I have left it open, so I can attempt to fix the noise. Please help.

I just successfully removed the housing below the steering column. With this removed + the steering top / bottom panels, it's much easier to lubricate moving parts controlling the steering wheel position. There's a motor at the bottom controlling forward/backwards movement, and one near the top on the right hand side (this is for cars where the driver's side is on the left).
To remove the housing:
1. Remove carpeted edge using a flat screwdriver (poke in from top before a clip, and then pull back. The entire piece will come off easily.
2. Remove all screws.
3. There are now two clips near the front that's keeping the housing in place. Pull on the left front edge below the steering wheel and it'll unclip. The right should come off easily as well.
If you search the forums for "steering column lubricate" you'll find a link to a TIS (in russian - use google translate) pdf for more info.
NOTE: Not sure if wd40 is a safe lubricant in this case. It's a degreaser I think...
