Thumbs up

Boy it's been a long 9 weeks. But yesterday 6/6/06 my little devil child arrived at the dealer. I should be picking Damien up on Sat as long as the paperwork gets here by Friday. So of course I spent about an hour sitting inside making sure everything worked.. It was heaven.. Pure Bliss...

However, I was not happy to find that the Heads Up Display was positioned really low. In fact I didn't even think it was working until I grabbed the wheel and lifted myself up to see it. Now I'm 5'6 but even a salesmen had some trouble seeing it (he's 6'0) unless the seat was raised all the way up. I could still barely see it with the seat up all the way.. So we went in to talk to the service tech and he was pleasant and explained how it's only millimeters that it's adjustable. So I came home and read all the past threads where others had the same issue. Even a few car reviews made note of this problem. One member did show a before and after pic and it was slightly higher after they adjusted it. I guess anything would help.

My question is: Has anyone had their HUD vertical height adjusted and if so how much higher was it? Could you see it with the seat down low? I'm not sure whether I want them to take apart the display and go diggin in there if they aren't going to be able to make much of a difference.

I stuck in a few pics. Enjoy..

I noticed the Night Vision camera right away. You must be one of the first to have in US! How does the camera look for protection against rock chips?

I actually went to see it right away.. The housing looks very secure and there is only a small center hole where any rocks etc could get in. But there is a nice hard plastic cover over the eye so I think it's going to be fine. I had the salesman walking back and forth in front of the car so I could check it out.. hehe

I also have HUD and mine (IMO) is very low ... I'm 6'2" and I have to adjust my seat up enough to see the HUD. When I do, its only an inch or two above the front hood. I would like it at least 2 - 3 inch higher.

That all said, you can make only minor adjustments to you HUD, nothing that will move it up 2 - 3 inches. I had the BMW Western Canada Service Rep sit down with me and go through the whole thing.

So, if you find out the BWM NA can make your HUD go up, please let me know and I'll go back to my dealer with your information. BTW, if you do get any work done, please take before and after pictures of the image.

You can see the "ICEMAN" images of his HUD in his photo galary.

Hey Canada, yeah I saw your old posts and Iceman's pics. I guess it can't be raised much much but I may have them try to bring it up the little bit it can be.. I'll let you know what happens. Did they refuse to try and raise it or did they talk you out of it?

They refused and where scared they would break something (they also would have had to order a special tool from German to do it) ... that's why I'm questioning their ability to do it or their wanting to order the toolkit

I read on one of the previous threads that the tool is part of their "special tools" that all dealers should have. I think my dealer has the tool because the service tech told me they tried to raise it once on another car, and it only moved a few millimeters. But someone else here said that some cars come from the factory with it lower than others so that means perhaps ours are at the lowest setting and could be raised more than that.. ughh

I saw a 550 at my dealer on Monday with nightvision. Mine is due from the VPC in NJ on maybe the 10th. The aero kit nightvision adaptor in the US is a proble and special parts had to be shipped from Germany. My car will go from NJ VPC to SC VPC and then trucked to my dealer.
