Unfortunately, wider tires will tramline quicker. Add the stiff walls of the runflats and we all drive like drunken sailors on groovy roads. I agree that it is embarrassing. Sigh.

Ok, this is going to sound a little crazy but my previous car was an Audi 2002 S4 and it had severe "tramlining", to the point that you desciribe with your 545i. And I actually drive 287, the Hutch and 95 into CT every day. But my 545i has minimal tramlining compared to the Audi or the e36 M3 I had previously. I've even upgraded to 19" wheels on my 545i with Sport and it rides real well.

The tramlinig I experience is only slightly more than my other vehicle, an Acura MDX! Not sure why.

I'm sure it's a combonation of all of the above, options: 1. drive the 78 buick LaSaber to work. or 2. Have a great sports sedan and live with it..... Sheeeeez

Mine does that on rutted pavement like you describe, plus goes crazy on open metal-grid drawbridges here in Chicago. I agree it's tramlining. What's known as "too much rubber" by some. See http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/gen.../tramlining.jsp.

But everywhere else, I love it. So I just deal.

I experienced something similar. But if you think it's bad, wait 'til it rains. I had to take the Autobahn one day when it was poring down and it was some kind of strange feeling I don't want to experience again.
