Changed the battery about a year ago

Last night I start the car and it had a low battery and the clock was reset. I thought maybe it was the Bluetooth adapter connected to it that was not letting the car go to sleep. I thought I will drive it to work and it will charge the battery back to full. I get back into go home and the clock was at the correct time. I thought "ok cool, it is happy".

On the way home from work I had the car washed. Drove about 10 miles and stopped at a gas station to grab a drink. I start the car up and reverse, I put it in drive and drive 3 feet and BAM, the car puts itself in park, I loose power steering. The dash lights up like a christmas tree with transmission, antilock brake, anti roll, running hot, ect. I shut the car off. At this point I am parked sideways at the gas station so I start it back up and reverse it to get it out of the way of traffic and after about 2 feet it throws itself into park again, rinse and repeat. I cleared codes and it does the same thing

I had the car towed to my house.
I was able to gently pull it onto and back off the tow truck. As soon as I gave it adequate throttle it goes nuts again.

I was thinking it was a battery or alternator thing so I check the voltage of the car and she reads 12.6. I start it up and it jumps to a little over 13 volts. I noticed when I let the car idle is runs without throwing a bunch of codes. When I rev to around 3 grand it acts crazy again.

I have a trickle charge on it now.

I ran codes and pulled 23 faults using the Carly for BMW app.

I am thinking maybe alt or battery but I really dont know. Has anyone seen anything like this happen?

Hey what's up. Yeah it sounds like the battery. You should check to see the age of the battery since most of them will last for about 5 years. Also that time is shorter every time the battery is run down, IIRC you lose a 1/2 volt each time. Try to charge your battery but if it happens again then time to replace the battery. Also I'm sure you know short trips kill the battery since you need to be driving it for at least 30-60 mins med to high speeds to really charge the battery.

Changed the battery and still no dice. I am thinking Voltage Regulator. I will check the brushes when I get home from work.

It was the Voltage Regulator.
