Question

My wife has just taken delivery of a brand new 525D SE with Logic 7 and Professional stereo upgrade.

The brochure, and the user manual, states that it is meant to be able to play MP3 files from a CDR in both the single-slot CD and the CD-Changer. However no matter what I do, I cannot get it to work. I have searched on the internet and found a few other messages from people saying that it doesn't work and that BMW need to release a software upgrade.

Can anybody tell me whether their professional stereo will play MP3's? If not, is there any news from BMW when this software update will be available? We paid a few hundred pounds extra for the stereo upgrade JUST to be able to play MP3's so if it doesn't do it, we will be wanting a refund...!!

Thanks,
Russ.

The software update was scheduled for release September/October 2004.
No word from BMW yet. Rumours say it will take a couple months more.
The same software update should bring the ability to watch DVD's on the nav drive to our E60's.
They are working on it, no release yet. Soon to come!!!

BTW: welcome aboard!

Unfortunately now its not possible, however, sometime very soon, a software update is due that will allow the playback of MP3's...

Many of us are waiting for this!

The radio (or nav) pro is required, AFAIK. And that is the only one you get on US spec cars...

I can now get about 20-22 pieces in cda format converted from mp3 on one CD. Looking forward to getting 700 MB of mp3. That should be about 200 if I trim out some of the Mozart.

I know how RussellFray feels, when I got my new car, nowhere in the manual of the car did it state that this feature was "coming soon". It just launched into how if you have a MP3 CD you, just insert it and you should see the following screens and this is how you work it. So being the newbie that I was, I spent an hour trying to figure out what was wrong.

But at least with it being in the manual we can all expect to get it. I hope.

It's too bad that the CD Drive would also not accept a DVD-R. I now have a DVD burner and those usually hold more than 4 GBs (newer ones hold double that). So I could put all my Mp3s (425+) on that. Oh well. I would defintely settle for 150 on a CDR.
