My dealer called last week to schedule me in for the MP3 update - I was on his list. Took the car in this morning and was on my way home playing MP3's by 5. Now I just need to figure out how to burn the discs so the track names don't get cut off. Other than that every thing seems to be working fine.

July 2004 production.
I?m using Windows Media Player to rip the music?s to a Library on hard disc, check if all data is ok, i.e. album name, song name, artist name, authors, etc. Then I burn de CD?s using Nero 7 and it works just fine.

I have a fairly large library of MP3 files already. When I use iTunes to burn the MP3 disc it puts all the files in the root of the disc but the full file names are visible in the iDrive display - until they run off the end. If I use Nero and burn the disc with my folder structure (preferred method) iDrive truncates the folder and file name at 8 characters and adds an underline character for any spaces. :weird:

I need to play around with it and burn a few more discs but it seems like if it can show long file names on one disc I should be able to get it to show them on all discs.

I've got the same underscores instead of spaces on everything except the song being played, because I've chosen to show details on idrive.
It is probably some kind of workaround found by BMW programmers to overcome any difficulty, I guess.

so would Lomag and I be able to run mp3s for early 2004 e60 productions? will be wonderful if we can... that would be great!! I feel your pain Lomag... I feel kind of cheated about the Bluetooth, since I was told that it would be available in my car later on with simple upgrade... anyways, I hope mp3s would be successful!!

by the way, would the car be able to run only mp3 files or can it also recognize wma files? do we need to convert everything to mp3 format? thanks again!!

Great news! Our E60 is bulid in the end of feb. 2004

Can anyone confirm that the all the equipment works after upgrading to CIP 20.0 ?

I want MP3 badly, but I don't think it's worth it, if I will loose etc bluetooth and voice rec, as I did in 17.x ?

I'm on 19.xx right now, and now everything works!
