My car is in for service now getting the CIP update and perhaps MP3 working. The advisor said he wasnt sure if it would work or not since my car is a Jan 04 build but they will give it a try anyway. I'll know by Wednesday or Thursday.

I've been let down with bluetooth and have a feeling I'll be let down with MP3 capability also. If I knew I would have waited those 2 more months until March production. Grrr!!
If it makes you feel any better, it looks like it was March '05 production (not '04).

This should be a great news to me.
I bought my e60 in Aug 2005 for 2006 model. Although my owner's manual shows MP3 capability, but I can't play it.

It?s confirmed, no hardware change is needed, only upgrade to CIP v.20.00.00 is required.
I went this morning to my dealer, LUACAR at Alfragide-Portugal, and the Engineer explained to me the whole process. First thing is to update the s/w to v.20.00.00 and follow all steps. No MP3 feature appears at this time. After the car has been full programmed, a second phase is required. This is the phase to add new features, and MP3 should be selected. The car is reprogrammed again with the MP3 feature selected. At the end of the process the drive should read MP3 discs.
This is truth for every E60, no matter what year it has been built.

Dear fellow JMCaiado, I?ve replied to your mail twice, but no chance to get it thru, I?ve received an error from your ISP.

Good luck with your dealers.

My dealer called last week to schedule me in for the MP3 update - I was on his list. Took the car in this morning and was on my way home playing MP3's by 5. Now I just need to figure out how to burn the discs so the track names don't get cut off. Other than that every thing seems to be working fine.

July 2004 production.
