Also, as far as I knoe, there has been no confirmation of an e60 US production - pre Sept production with Nav that has mp3
I assume that this technical bulletin works for US cars also

As far as I understand it you have to specifically request they enable mp3 capability by ticking some box in the BMW software, if you just go for version 20 without telling them you want mp3 they might not do it, of course I might be wrong

I?m not totally sure about what has been done on my car to make it able to playback MP3 discs, Tomorrow, [/quote]
Hi Fpinto,
What's your dealer?
I'm from Portugal to and my CCC was retrofited in 2005.
Maybe i can have mp3 enabled like you did if i contact your dealer.

Here's the bulletin:
SIB653005.pdf
So this confirms once and for all that it is partly dependent on the CCC hardware itself, and it appears to only support 03/05 production vehicles and newer.

Hi everybody,
I have a 2004 built car with nav pro. I have been in constant touch with one of the techs at my dealer regarding MP3 capability. He actually called me last week and said that they could upgrade my car now and enable the MP3 function. I hope he is right.... I am going in tomorrow. I?ll let you know!

But, we know that fpinto has got MP3 capability on his car after software upgrading, and he owns a year 2004 car. So, one of the two: either his dealer replaced at no cost for him the CCC (unlikey) or the specification of Euro cars are different from US cars, at least in respect of CCC unit. Nobody knows something more?

Hi Lucky,
I?m from Sweden. I just got an e-mail from my dealer and they said that they had successfully upgraded at least 2 cars like mine (2004 builds..)

That sounds very nice! The dealer in Stockholm where we bought the car new, promised us that your car would be able to play MP3 in september 2004 But the sales men do talk alot
This is some great news! Our car is going in for a microfilter change in 2500 km, then they can update the software, and I will get MP3

My car is in for service now getting the CIP update and perhaps MP3 working. The advisor said he wasnt sure if it would work or not since my car is a Jan 04 build but they will give it a try anyway. I'll know by Wednesday or Thursday.
I've been let down with bluetooth and have a feeling I'll be let down with MP3 capability also. If I knew I would have waited those 2 more months until March production. Grrr!!

Your E60 is build 2/2004, and we could't order Bluetooth with PRO NAV at that time. So we got the 670 Phone prep. instead of bluetooth, and waited because we tought that BMW could install bluetooth later on, if we have the cables and microphone in the car from factory... I 09/2004 BMW installed the Bluetooth function in the car, and it's great!
Keep us updated about the MP3 function in your car! You must have one of the first E60 with the PRO NAV
