I had the same problem with my 545i which went on for months until ... a real savvy service manager in Scottsdale AZ asked me where I got my gas. I told him and he said that this was not a top tier gas company. Google for "top tier gas" to get the list of companies that have guaranteed to put the cleaners in their gas, he told me that the problem was because of crappy gas which created carbon buildup on the valves and heads. This freaked out the software of the engine trying to normalize the idle, that?s why you have the jerky situation at very low speed in forward and reverse. They gave the engine an enema with a solvent, told me to only buy gas from a top tier company (highest available octane is 91 in Arizona) and every third fill up put some carbon cleaner in the tank. I have done this and have not experienced the problem sinse. (6 months so far)

 

Thanks Harry, I will try and run some cleaner through my system. I have found a temporary fix though...if I put the car into Sport mode, the hesitation completely goes away. Very odd.

 

It really hasn't bother me to the point where i want to bring it in to the dealer...

Im in NY myself,where is prestige? did u get a loaner? let me know if they figure it out

 

The three BMW approved Gas Stations that contain 0% Ethanol are: Shell, Chevron or BP. I have the same problem with my 07 550i, but it is a normal issue. I had tests done as well and everything came back positive. I have 5, 6, & 7 Series car's idle this way and it is nothing to worry about it.

 

Prestige is in Ramsey, NJ. 20 miles or so from the city. I purchased the vehicle from them and yes, they gave me a loaner; a nice little 328ix in crimson red. Loan extended for a second day because of the software business.
