Don't know if the fuzzy stuff would get me all excited - reminiscent of 1970 mouse fur General Motors car interiors .

But, a fine-grain pattern carbon fiber might look right

Just got my car back from a routine service, my SA was nice enough to check for steering wheel peel. Apparently this has been an issue, according to my SA. Unfortunately or fortunately, my steering is okay. I hope it doesn't peel in the near future as I'm right at 50k miles.

Just completed this mod over the weekend...

Bought some 3M black carbon fibre vinyl sample (30cm sqaure) from ebay.

Lifted the edge of the central section with my fingernail and slid the vinyl underneath, wrapped and finished with a Hairdryer and sharp knife.

...and this is the finished article.

Came out really well in the end. Total cost £9.45.

That looks really nice, good work mate.

I have just wrapped my gear knob in the same material as it was flaking:

I have been thinking about wrapping my wheel trim in the same material to match (plus the fuzzy stuff is a biatch to keep clean). Seeing your pic has made up my mind, going to order some more di-noc tonight

that's neat! i have the same issue, well i guess all m-sport owners have the same issue!
i have done my best to avoid touching the area as it has started to peel a little. lucky for me that problem is only on the steering wheel. my friend has a 330ci coupe and the interior door handles suffer from the same problem.

thanks for sharing your solution! will follow your instructions...
