So I recently picked up an 06 530d M Sport and am absolutely loving the car. I traded up from a Merc C180K Coupe so this is a big change to me.

The car is low milage and is almost mint. The biggest issue I had with the car is the peeling soft touch coating on the lower trim pieces on the wheel.

To fix this, I took off the airbag, removed the trim section, separated the damaged piece from the button modules and re-covered them in a alcantara style material. I'm very happy with the look and feel of my mod, let me know what you folks think?

Closer pics please?

Sounds like a good mod... I hate the peeling too and want to get it fixed / recovered.

Very Nice. You can also mod by silver CF Vinyl Wraps to match up with your interior.

That's another option I've been looking at. I already had this sticky alcantara stuff so went with that. It also does feel quite nice on your fingers

A few bits about my car:

2006 530d M Sport Auto
Silver Grey
36K miles
19" 172 Wheels
Bi-xenons
Boot lid finisher
Pro Navigation
CD Changer
Grey Dakota leather, part electric, heated
Alu Cube interior trim
Extended light package
PDC
Speed sensitive steering

I'm sure there is some other stuff I can't remember at the moment. Sorry about the crappy pic, I only have the dealer pic saved on my PC at the moment.

Do you mind sharing where you purchased the sticky alcantara-like fabric from?

Would love to tell you where I got it from (as I would like to buy some more myself), however I have no idea where this was purchased. The roll I have is probably 10 years old and I found it in my fathers garage!

I'll have a look at the backing paper tonight to see if it has the manufacturer stated.

Welcome to the forums, and brilliant mod I've got the same issue on my 2006 530dMsport and am planning to resolve it as soon as the weather permits working outside in the dry on a weekend. If you do have any luck with finding the manufacturer of the alacantra, you're going to make many of us much happier.

Happy motoring.

Great thread ! I was thinking of making one myself. I've been having the 'peel issue' as well. It has been growing for a few months now, and I've been a good boy by not picking at it.

Soon, I'll have to do the same as you azstar.

How easy was it?

Thanks!
