I had the same thing happen to my non-sport steering wheel. I had to visit my dealership on three ocassions before they decided to replace it, not on warranty but on "goodwill". Apparently they will eat the cost instead of crosscharging this to BMW.
The peeling is not under warranty? Really tragic that BMW produces such quality

Put some silver sticker on the wheel to cover up the peeling. Here are some photos of what it looks like after the sticker on

I think the silver on your wheel looks great - where did you source the silver sticker from and how did you apply it?

I may do the same on mine if it is relatively straightforward.

Thanks

Hi LeeCAN,

Thanks for the comments. the silver sticker is sourced from a sticker shop. I think any place which makes custom made stickers should sell them. They come in huge rolls but you can ask them to sell them by the metre. Just applied like a normal sticker it by cutting out a relevant sizeand trimming away the unwanted bits with a blade.

hmm.. Could the heated steering feature cause the steering wheel to peel? does anyone know if that would cause the problem?

Not sure about that as I don't have that feature, yet it still peels.

The M Sport steering wheels aren't available with the heated option.

And the peeling problem is very common. My steering wheel is peeling as well, luckily it's not on the front but the back of the spoke so it isn't really noticeable. If the peeling continues and moves towards the front, I will certainly go to my dealership and request a replacement steering wheel.....whether it's covered by the warranty or not !!!!!
