My Ride: E60 M5
I actually had a guy in a 645/650i pull up behind me in my lane. He then proceeded to pass me, going like 85-90mph, all the while mugging me as he passed, just so that I can see his ///M6 badge. The rest of his car was standard issue 6 series. Go figure.

My Ride: 2006 BMW 525I/TITANIUM SILVER METALLIC/GREY LEATHER INTERIOR/EURO RED REFLECTORS/20% TINT/EURO STICKER/BMW CCA STICKER
Anyone who puts an M badge on a non m car is an a$$hole. I wont put ANYTHING M on my car. I bought mine at the peak of gas prices (which now I wanna shoot myself for not getting a v8). I was going to even go with an M kit and dual exhaust but Im like whats the point its a 525i? Im opting for the AC kit because I dont want people to be like oh wow an M5 lets race him or have a million people tell me how nice my m5 is. I do have the m5 idrive knob though. I dont like ay M accessories to be on my car except that (which has no badge). Just my opinion.

I have an 06 530 and is NOT de-badged. I have one item on my car that shows the M badge and that is a license plate frame. It only has the M badge (not M5). I chose to put this on my car not to be a "poser" or anything else that some of you may call me but for the sole purpose to show my respect for the M and the great supercars that they produce because I'm a proud owner of a BMW 5. If I was a poser, I would have taken the obvious 530i badge of the trunklid. Call me what you will but things like this are and should not be an issue at all. I agree with everyone about putting an M5 or M6 badge on a non M5 or M6 car. That is definately posing. If my M license plate frame bothers anybody, GET A LIFE.

My Ride: 2004 545i
A few years ago Mercedes was badging the S500/S600 as an AMG if there were enough AMG options on it. I though it was pretty stupid since a true S-class AMG was a lot more expensive than an S500. This was diluting their own brand IMHO.

...if people cant tell the difference btwn a 550i and a 525i that their own fault. ...
Do tell! Other than the model badge, how can a person tell the difference between a 525i and a 550i? (I'm talking non-Sport here.)
As far as M badges go, I have M badges on my wheels. Came that way from the factory. Does that make me a poser?? Why can't I complete the look with an M badge on the deck? (Not M5, just M.) I'm just posing the question. I have no interest in putting M badges (or other M pieces for that matter) on my car. But I have to say that I think debadged cars with M pieces all over them are just as big of posers as the "badgers." They're still trying to deceive people into thinking it's an M car.

your on a website that was created solely to talk about how we are all neurotic freaks when it comes to our ride. look at the posts, everyone here is concerned/intrested about what another bmw owners think about their various mods/ideas...of course its going to be an issue (pro or con).
anyway, i dont understand the M plate frame? would you put a 525 frame on your car? prob not cause its not a 525, if its not an M you shouldnt have it on your car. simple.
