Anyone suffering from the low battery warning light coming on when the car is switched on for about 30mins and not running, I have this problem I havn't let it go any further in case the car doesn't start so I was wondering how correct is this warning.

The batterypole is a so called "smart pole". The power in the E60 is under surveillance, and once the smart pole detects that the battery is running low, everything gets shut off automatically and you'll get the warning. This is to save enough power to start the car.
My car gives me the warning after about 5 minutes...

My Ride: E61 525iA Build 2004/08. "Safirschwartz Metallic". Navi Pro, Adaptive Headlights, Bi-Xenon, Panorama Sunroof etc... CIP 18.00.01 (No noticed bug)
I have the TV-option, and it sometimes happens that I stay in the car watching TV when my wife is doing some shopping (she has a black belt in shopping...)
In those cases, I'll get the warning in about 30 minutes. Local laws prevents me to stand still idling for more than one minute.

Not sure if it will help you out but the following link will take you to a post in a similar thread that links to a .pdf document explaining the power supply and power management of the car:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...ndpost&p=118669
It's quite technical but it explains the types of electrical "consumers" and what will be turned off by the car if the battery charge gets too low.
