Unhappy

Day of delivery and within 100 miles...

Accepte delvery of my US spec 530i yesterday in Italy. While highway driving to the exporter the "close hood" waring illuminated on the iDrive. I pulled over, but found the hood firmly secured. The light only extinguished after 3 open/close cyclee AND restarting the car. After another 25 miles and speeds exceeding 80 mph I was warned by another motorist that something was wrong. I pullled over find teh hood had "popped" to the first stage of openning as if the handle was pulledon the inside. No warning light!

Since no dealers are open on Saturday PM I decide to park the car at a nearby military installation and return home. Needless to say my confidence is shaken. I will unlikley have the opportunity to bring to a dealer for assessmetn before I export to the U.S.

Any similar experiences or advice?

Thanks,
Bob

IIRC, this is a known and fixable problem on some US cars.

had this happen to me on a test drive straight from the dealer. Pulled over, opened and shut the bonnet and the problem went away - obviously a known problem.

I had the same problem, however it was not fixed by open and closing the bonnet. In fact it was a sensor that had to be replaced.

Since the entire front section is made of aluminium you've probably noticed that the hood is very light in terms of weight. So when I took delivery of my car I was advised from my dealer no to be too gentle with the hood when shutting it.

So shut the hood with more power, you won't brake it.
