Loss of Power - No errors recorded on the Management Unit

Hi,


Being running a BMW 530D 2004 (218bhp) for the last few months. The car had a loss of power and the Cam Shaft sensor had logged an error. Had a BMW Specialist replace it, but the power hasn't come back, and there's no futher error codes. The car is performing like a 520D / 525D, but consuming diesel like a 530D which is pissing me off like no ones business.

BMW have suggested that the Air Mass Meter (MAF) might need replacing, but they are not sure, and it might not improve anything.

I needed to know, Is it possible to clean the AMM for this car, and if so does anyone know of any tutorials with pics ??? Theres abit of information here and there about cleaning AMM's , but I'm not sure if that applies to this model and year of manufacture ?

That's what i use to clean the MAF. Just take it out and follow the directions on the can. BMW can't attach something to the car that measures the air that passes through the MAF? that seems a little unbelievable.

Update :

Opened the engine and removed the MAF. Used Electrical contact cleaner spray on it. It is a self contained unit, So i was not able to clean it properly, just sprayed the hell out of it.

Leaving it to dry before I put it back in.

Any ideas on how long it should take to dry ?

i would double check the electrical contact sprayer and make sure it doesnt leave any residues. if i recall, some of those electrical contact cleaners leave silicon residue.

okay i did some research and it shouldn't leave silicon residue, but just make sure it doesn't leave ANY residue at all.

Make : Wynn's - Electrical Contact cleaner.

According to the can it says it leaves no residue.

If used properly, most cleaners evaporate rather quickly you should be good to plug it in again.

Not sure how much day light I've got left at the moment. First time I've had a look at the MAF / Engine side of life. Heres a picture of the MAF:-

What car is that? Can you take a picture of where you plug in the connector to the MAF sensor?
