My Ride: 2005 545i with everything
I have logic7 and it is an amazing sound system but is not one bit better than what I would expect from a $65k MSRP car. It should be standard. The pathetic stock system is an embarrasment to a car in this price range especially when you listen to what the competition has standard for this money. Just my 0.02.

My Ride: MY05 545i Jet Black with Auburn interior. SMG, Logic7, Sport Package, Comfort Seats, Navigation.
At $65K everything should be standard. Just look at Acura's RL pricing system, one price covers all: Nav, premium sound, leather, CD changer (in-dash), 4 wheel drive, key-less comfort access, PDC, perforated seat, seat warmer....etc.
However, if you look at it this way, almost everybody in the world are paying more for their 545 than us, then you'll feel much better.

What a wonderful little marketing ploy BMW has - its called exclusivity. Charging more than what many think its worth. Funny how they still sell so many cars though.
The absolute worst audio system in a car ever though belongs to Porsche. I paid for the hi-fi system and the sound quality in that car is comparable to a hand held Radio Shack $9.95 special.

A system much better than the Logic 7 should be standard on the 545i. The Logic 7 barely cuts it in my book.
In the end.... it's a cost cut. Stereo is about the LAST thing a BMW buyer is seriously concerned with, so it's among the first things to get downgraded during design.
99.9% of people don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to music or audio.... so why invest money into a high quality system if none of your client base could tell you the difference?
Car companies use name brands like Bose, and Harmon Kardon because they are cheaper and more well known than high-end brands. So people hear the name, recognise that they heard it before... and assume it's good.

The 330i has the Logic 7 standard but the CD changer ($595) is not included like it is in the 5 series package. The premium sound is also optional on the 7 series....I think that's even more ridiculous.
