Because I had a $20,000 competition stereo in my last car, so the Logic 7 sucks to me.
I'm just unfairly biased.
The Logic 7 causes loads of distortion with the processing. I hear it every time I use it. But I have to use the processing just to get a decent stereo image.
It drives me nuts, but I won't dare install a custom system in my E60 like I did in my Lexus before it.

The problem is that any decent car stereo system has to pump out tons of power to have good dynamic range on ordinary music, even if you're not bumping rap all day long. Tons of power means tons of space for amplifiers and subwoofers, and Johnny middle-manager's wife is not going to be willing to give up baby carriage space for a couple of amps. Hence decent OEM stereos I think will always remain off the option list. And now that I can install a system myself, personally I don't care. Just give me the bone stock audio and out it goes, along with the spare tire.

Man I think the Logic 7 is a pretty damn good OEM system.? Surprised you guys are disappointed in it.

I'm not disappointed in it at all--it's awesome IMO. It's the stock stereo that sucks for such an expensive car. It sucks that we have to pay to get good sound in this price range.

People forget that this is a German car. In Germany you can get a 7 series with cloth seats and a small diesel engine. They just do things more ala carte over there.
The other thing i always here people yap about is the cup-holders. Well I'm sure they might exist somewhere over in Europe but I didn't see any drive thru restaurants in Germany....and they just don't suck on Super Big Gulps while they drive. Something about eating lunch and going 120mph just don't mix.

Look here's my view on cupholders. If you want to put cupholders in your car and be able to tell people your car has cupholders, you shouldn't make a halfassed attempt and make some that don't work Otherwise you may as well not offer them.

Germans may not use cupholders....
But BMW USA is BMW AG's largest freakin' customer.... so BMW should honestly try to at least make a reasonable effort to accomodate the US customers, who DO like to drink while sitting in traffic.
Besides... if those German engineers can build the "Ultimate Driving Machine", which they can.... then how freakin' difficult is it to make a plastic ring that holds a cup of liquid?
Lastly.... shortly after I took delivery of my E60, I received a promo CD-ROM disc from BMW. It was some various video footage about BMW, including a short interview with Chris Bangle.
Chris Bangle was discussing his inspiration behind his BMW designs. The lines he loved, and why. But the one thing he talked about more than any other aspect.... the cupholder in the 645, and how awesome it was. He acted like it was the greatest achievement at BMW ever.
Absolutely laughable.
