My Ride: 2005 545i Sport Package Limo Tinted, Heads up display, Fully Loaded Minus Cold Weather Package and Rear window Sunshades.
How do you know that the roads weren't totally empty? We get so used to our cars that we have a perfect sense how long it's going to take to stop, when to slow down, and how fast to accelerate depending on traffic. Doing 130MPH and taking a picture is actually quite easy once you get used to your car at those speeds.

Don?t you know that at 149 mph, your car is moving faster than your ability to safely react to anything you can see with your headlights!!! Michael Shumacher couldn?t avoid an obstacle on the road under those conditions. Stevie Wonder might as well be behind the wheel. BMWNA and various state Department of Motor Vehicles ought to require of all 6, 8 and 10 cylinder owners to pass a mandatory Germanic style course on basic Newtonian physics before American owners can register their high powered BMW ultimate driving machines. Notification of course failure or noncompliance will sent to BMWNA. Whereby a remote program signal will be sent to the car of the owner in noncompliance hitting the ECU and limiting the car to 90 mph. Great idea. To bad Chris Bangle is gone, he might have liked this new safety feature for the American market. Well, I still can call Barry! (Barack)

Even taking into account the forums draw enthusiasts, and enthusiasts historically drive more aggressive, there arent too many hot heads here. i think most bmw drivers are 30s-50s successful responsible people.
It isnt the bmw driver with the occasional high speed run, it is the kids driving home from school in the rain, driving like morons coupled with their inexperience in cars that arent properly maintained because they cant afford to maintain them on their part time chick-filet incomes

My 152 mph run on the empty highway at 1AM was a real thrill....when I had my M5. But it's not like it's an every day thing like Craig stated above. I've done 135mph in my 550i quite a few times, but those were also at 1AM on the same empty stretch.

For US roads (empty or with very light traffic) and my physical abilities 130 mph feel pretty safe, 140 mph is border line, 150 mph somehow felt OK in my 2002 540 and does not feel safe in E60. I blame RFT tires for not being compliant with road imperfections or maybe it is me, I am 7 years older now.

When BMW offers a infrared high definition satellite controlled HUD display integrated into the I-Drive that gives both visual and audio warnings of the specific danger ahead, I?ll crack 100 mph at night.
