yes i said it before, on smaller engines (not v8s and v12s), it takes more time for the gearbox to choose which gear it needs to be in to gain maximum performance. On big v8s you can pretty much accelerate in any gear

On a V8 and V12 as you rightly say there is not the same NEED to kickdown due to higher availability of torque accross the rev range.
However, the time from kickdown to power on should be equivalent accross the model range.
Perhaps the box in the 7 series isn't as slow to act as that in the e60?
