NO LUCK WITH MP3 UPDATE
#1
Well, once again no luck. I took my 02/05 build 530i to the dealer on Friday. Of course, mine is one month prior to the so called "magic month" of 03/05. I do not have NAV, but took several copies of e-mails from people that made the MP3 playback possible on pre-03/05 builds without and with NAV. My dealer said even if I paid for the updates, he would not do it because if it caused something else to malfunction BMW would not cover it and I would be responsible for anything and everything. They once again offered to install an AUX input, but this time, the price quoted was $50 higher than last time - $375.00 including parts which I think is absolutely ridiculous. I guess I'll stick with my wireless FM transmitter until Dension comes out with something that will work. Anybody have any input?

My only input is the BMW owes you a software update if your software is not working the way it should be. Are you having any software problems?

You don't say where you are located but there is absolutely no doubt that your car can be enabled to play MP3 (just like my 12/04-built with NAV) assuming you have the latest software upgrade.
Others are right, find yourself another dealer.

Hi
Mine is 04/2004. I got a soft upgrade (dont know which one) on november 2005 because the professional phone did not support 32k SIM. Then the prof navy had a new "panorama" view, but no MP3.
On jan 2006 I went to the dealer for other problem, and asked about Mp3. They told me "are u sure it doesnt play MP3" Of course I was, i tried several disks.
I asked for a soft upgrade and they told me it was not necesary, my version should support MP3.
The next day when I picked up the car i found it read MP3.
They said that for some reason they forgot to ACTIVATE the MP3 on the previous soft upgrade. So It seems that it needs the CIP version 20 or more AND a kind of ACTIVATION.
Hope this helps

When updating software for MP3, dealer must be sure to check box to activate MP3 playing, not just load newest software.
