anyone have any idea how to tranfer the memoriesin the car such as seat, mirror, volume on hifi etc to the key? please outline how to do it...

 

You don't do anything, the keys simply remeber any settings prior to you removing it from the ignition.

Your are misled by the manual. I was too. You expect that when you insert the key the seat will automatically move. NOT designed that way. When you insert key1, you have different seat memory positions than with key2. You still have to push the memory button on the seat. The keys also have their own volume settings, radio presets and door locking options. E.G. I want to have all doors open with the first dpress of the key. My wife wants just the driver side to open and then wants to push again to open all doors. These choices are all stored in the keys.

 

Actually, you CAN have the key alone move the seat for you. How this works depends on two things:

1. Your i-drive vehicle settings - you have a choice of the seat moving either after the door is unlock, or after the door is opened.

2. Your s/w version. BMW seemed to have played around with the exact activation of the above. Some versions will have the seats moving after one unlock press, some actually require two presses of unlock to do their stuff.

 

I never have understood the significance of the difference in this choice.

 

If you have an early build car, you may not have the extra computer needed for the key memory. My module was completely missing from my car. A mere software update didn't fix it.

 

I know what you mean. It does seem rather trivial to offer a choice between the two - hardly a lot of difference other than being able to see the seat move when you open the door, at the expense of it not being ready quicker

 

Mine has always worked. My wife and I have seperate keys and I have it set to activate the settings when the unlock button is pressed on the remote. The seats, mirrors, volume, last adio source, weather doors lock when you drive away and other things are stored on the keys. I prefer the setting to have it happen when they door is unlocked rather then when opened so that all of the changes are done by the time I get into the car. This has worked for me from V11.3 - V13.2

 

a little off topic . yhs, don't forget to use your second key to start the car at least once every three months. the battery inside the key needs to recharge once in awhile .
