Okay, guys!!! I started this, but I think we've beat it to death.

Thanks everyone for your passionate opinions! I guess once I get the car (I take delivery the day after Labor Day here in the US), I'll figure what works best for both the car and my lifestyle.

 

it isn't a matter of being bothered, it just looks better. if you remove the swirls your car will have a more brilliant shine anyway. you are misinformed, in that you believe "the damn black car is going to have swirls no matter what." and that simply isn't true.

i think laymen notice it night and day when a car is polished versus not.

 

Go to autopia.org or autogeekonline. The trick is to minimize scratches on the car. You do this by (1) routine washes with two buckets (2) good polishes and sealants (3) claying. Also don't ever let anyone run their dirty paws over it . Good luck. I have maintained a black car and would never get one as a daily driver. Having said that - nothing looks better than a clean black car.

 

Washing and waxing is useless unless you park out in left field at the local mall.

 

+1 for Autopia. Learn so much from that website on detailing my E60, especially the exterior. Owner of a jet black E60 here and currently using it as my daily driver and loving it. It's a part time job maintaining it but nothing beats a shiny black car.

Also recommend Blackfire Wet Diamond and may be invest some on a dual polisher from Porter Cable or Griot Garage, to help speed up the detailing process.

As for specific product - the Black Fire Wet Diamond sealant is awesome. Also consider Optimum Spray Wax.

 

Bottom line, if you can keep your black car looking as good as this one - then you're doing a good job. Antti is about the only one that should have an real opinion here, his car is gorgeous!!!!
