Just so everyone feels better about their cars...
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. we know you hate the e60 and will never like it. YOU'RE NOT ADDING ANYTHING TO THIS FORUM.

GET RID OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look, the e60 has its share of faults (which I've honestly and tactfully documented in previous posts), but it's a damn good car.
If I had a bad one, I'd shove it straight up BMW's ass, and not say another word.

besides getting rid of a car is not that easy, i've never read suebmw saying DONT BUY THIS CAR... i think he/she knows he/she just got very bad luck, lets be realistic, this car has had a lot of problems for some people and the only way to solve them is talking about them.

if the same as mine the creaking back seat is in fact the plastic ventilation grill that runs along the back edge of the parcel shelf directly under the rear window.
i have wedged some small pieces of black carpet mat in between the window and grill and stopped the creaking - this may work.

I did the disconnect battery thing when my car was not being used during winter.
On re-conection I lost no settings, the car started first time and drove exactly like it did before with no apparent learning period like I used to have in my E36.
In fact BMW said rather disconnect than come back to a car with a flat battery.

Or, just get a full frontal labotomy and get an Audi.
Even, the whole idea behind the forum is to spread info. that could be
helpful to others. Simply by reading the messages I've managed issues
that I otherwise could not have accomplished. We don't necessarily
have to agree w/ someones approach[that's the beauty of a democracy]
PS...you misspelled "lobotomy"
