535d, touring, sport package, step, winter tires (because... well, i dont know, someones an idiot).

Alright, let me start with wow.

It is indeed an amazing car. I was very, very pleased. But im not going to buy one.

The first thing i did was take the beast out on the highway. On my way i was very impressed with the power, all that torque down to the back wheels. It accellerates very well - and its silent, as long as you drive it nicely.

Well out on the highway i plant my right foot down, and the car zips off. Nothing impressive, but it wasnt slow either. Thats what i was thinking until i found another car in front of me, and i had to slow down....

from 210 km/h!!!

Highway driving doesnt push you into the seat, it doesnt make any angry growls, the transmission is so smooth you have no clue as to what it may be doing, it just works. and its fast. fast. fast.

You have no clue as to how fast you're going until you glance at the spedometer, and you have no idea as to how you got there. just that you're well past 200km/h and that you're loving it.

From a standstill, with the engine running, from outside the car, you can clearly hear a muffled diesel sound. I didnt like that. Driving in the city, accellerating on short strips (and boy does it go), you can clearly hear the diesel revving up.

The sound. Thats all that turned me off. I cant stand it, but after two and a half hours of hauling ass the fuel gage had refused to move, and i had spanked every car i raced with the exception of the Porsche Targa. Not a bad accomplishment. Turn on the radio and that, distant rumbling of a tractor disappears, and 100% of your senses go to pushing this amazing driving machine to its limits.

I had fun in this car. Lots and lots and lots of fun. The car is 15% cheaper than the 545, oodles, and oodles of fun, costs much less in fuel consumption (as the fuel needle is seemingly glued to full), and looks amazing. Theres all that and the bragging rights - you might possibly have the fastest production diesel powered road car - in the world.

If i wasnt the kind of person that opens the sunroof and drops the windows to hear my engine/exhaust growl as i cruise around on a sunny day- i'd probably be putting in an order for more than one 535d.

Unfortunately, the growl of the 545 is for me.

Narf,
If ?100 a tank doesn't bother you then the V8 is for you. Why don't you wait till September and get a 550i

that was a great experience man thanls for sharing

i currently have a 252d and well i tottally agree with the horrible diesel sound but hey at 20 euro a full tank of diesel the choice was easy

and i get 9 to 10 L for 100km which is i guess too much for a diesel.

another thing the engine sound on mine is worse then on other european cars cause the quality of diesel here in tunisia is awefull. starting to think that i should use cleaners and products from wyynns anybody using those ?

20 euro a tank? i dont know how big the tank is on the diesels, but assuming its a 70l tank, that would cost 70euros here. The price of diesel is only marginally lower here - government taxes the shit out of it - apparently its dirty - so you only really win (save money) if you drive lots and lots (which of course we all do).
