The roads, in general terms, are TERRIBLE!? Holes and cracks deep enough to do damage all over the place!? How do you deal with it?? Why do you put up with it?

Other than the roads, the USA was great - lots of fun had by all!

I just cry once in a while. The roads in Los Angeles are the worst, not because of the weather but because the city and state is almost broke.

YA LA is horrible now! It just gets worse and worse and no one has the money to repair it decently...

Funny you should mention that. I was just talking with a friend about how the population of LA is suppose to double in the next decade or two yet I a haven't heard of any new proposed freeways. My understanding is that it takes a decade to build a new freeway. What is going to happen in the future when traffic literally comes to a grinding halt?

you use the canyons. When they are not closed due to mudslides. It is always easy to find a new, fun route to wherever you want to go. People complain about LA traffic, but when you have lived here, and have delivered pizzas at some point, you get to know your way around. STAY AWAY FROM FREEWAYS, and it is fine.

The roads look like Russia, don't they?

well - there is a theory that states that matter is indeed just energy vibrating at much slower frequencies. Threrefore it should (theroetically, of course) be possible to speed up the vibration of the matter (people) to the point where they become energy (light, sound, you name it), and essentailly transfer (phone, fax, email) them to another such facility (where the energy would be slowed back down to matter).

Hell - see startrek - this is whats behind the whole "beaming" people left, right, and center.

Given time, this technology will become cheaper, and thus widespread. As a technology where in a matter of seconds, a person could be transferred anywhere, cars will start to disappear.

That short period where noone drives but cars have yet to be outlawed will be ours. Nothing but 5ers, M3s, aston martins, etc. will be found on the roads, driving by people who love to drive.

My friends - we shall indeed inherit the earth!

There is nothing like driving around NYC and the surrounding areas to keep you on your toes...It's a game of 'avoid the potholes'..Unfortunately sometimes you lose - like last spring when I was driving my 540 at 30 mph and hit an unavoidable pothole that was about 4"-5" deep. Not only was the impact enough to blow the right front tire and bend the rim, but it popped the vents out of the dash and cracked the surrounding moldings. A claim submitted to the city for repair costs was denied because the pothole would have had to been reported before I hit it, which it was not...

Welcome to NYC...

Yeah, that may be true, but you guys go like a bat out of hell on the queensway (is it 401?) around toronto!!!!!!!!! I wish we had places where we could do that too!

There must be some lenient cops around Toronto when you can find some good road surface. All our cops are out looking for tiny speeding infractions instead of keeping the cities safe

You can normally get away with 20 km/h over the limit and people will always travel faster if they think they can get away with it. The Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and the 401 are two of the main roads around here.

There is a toll highway (407) just north of the city which is a lot emptier and people seem to drive at 130 km/h. The limit is 100 and the cops will pull speeders over so you still have to keep your wits about you.

Every so often the police will have a safety blitz and pull people over for doing a little over the limit.

Wow, I thought I remembered people doing more than 130 around Toronto. I've been able to do that here from time to time. It's just that I'm the only one doing it and others are doing 100-110

Roads in Washington DC are horrible too! But they improve as it gets warmer.

If you want really good roads, try France! Believe it or not they are excellent - even the little minor roads from village to village are superb! They put the British roads to shame!
