OK, after sleeping over it, I am now on my way to the dealer to go with the 2007 E60 6 speed manual. The offer they made me is simply too good to refuse.

Here is what I will order:
Premium package, sports package, active steering, NAV, shades, Sirius, Cold weather, HUD

Congrats!! I think you made the right choice. It would be mighty tough to go down to an E90 from a E60. No slight on the 3er. The handling of the 530 is great with the lighter weight of the 6 and your option list is spot on. Its improbable that you'll have the same bad luck again. All the best.

Long live BMW and, for that matter, Bangle.

Dr. I am glad that you found an equitable solution to your dilemma! I was ready to offer a drive in my E60 to show you that the SMG can be smooth, and that the other issues were probably an anomaly.

Thanks.
This morning, my car felt like it was rinning on 5 cylinders insetad of 8. Just going in a straigh line, it was shuddering and jumping around. Coming to a stop, the car banged at thever downshift and the entire drivetrain felt loose and shuddered. Oh well, this will have an end soon.

Does your state have a "lemon law" In CA, if your car has had multiple trips to the dealership for the same problem, it falls under the lemon law rule, and the car has to be bought back at the price you paid for it. It cannot be resold, and you get out scott free. I have a colleague who returned a corvette under the same rule. Perhaps you can look into it.
