My Ride: 2006 550 SMG

Boy your situation sucks!!! Its a shame that you have to get rid of your car and comprise with another brand. I have had my 550 for 4500.00 miles with nothing more than a creaking windshield, which will be fixed on thursday. I was talking to the shop foreman at my dealership and he told me that BMW has done alot of changes to the 06 models. He said I shouldnt have virtualy any problems, software or mechanical. I would press your dealer to take back your 545 and give you a deal on a 06 that respects what you have been thru!!! GOOD LUCK

I am comtemplating this option: 2007 530i with manual. It seems a lot of complaints are related to the Steptronic and, as much as I like it, I am definitely done with SMG.
One would hope that the 2007 models have most kinks ironed out.....

hey is there a 2006 530 that you can find on the lot? that has to be a lot cheaper than the 2007s... with the new engine the 530 isnt all that bad compared to the 545... Shop around... find a dealer that will give you a good trade in for your 545.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had it with SMG... but I understand... go with manual! It'll be perfect!

Good luck! Keep us updated.

Just an example of BMW's confidence in their ELECTRONICS.

As I intended buying a 1 or 2 year old car and running it up to high milage (about 120K miles) my dealer advised me to completely avoid cars with ANY of the more complex options - especially ACTIVE STEERING and DYNAMIC DRIVE.

It does seem to me that the electronics side of the e60 is at best hit and miss, which does a real disservice to what is essentially a great car with good mechanical reliability.

Thanks - I really really appreciate your support. I have had BMW NA in the loop for a while and they are very slow to respond ( 2 weeks to call back...), but I have not given up. I left my contact a not so nice voice mail today...
I would love to get another BMW but can I really trust it?
I don't know at this moment. I just want to have a car that works
Judging from all the problems people report here (yeah, I know, we are quite anal...), I don't know if it will get any better. I am just so tired of all this........
What insurrance u got, get it stolen somehow... but tricky and then you have to act like you are sad.
Get another one, you know BMW is the best car, mine has 16K+ kms no probs yet, but I pray it is true if you go for a "low rep" basic car you will not have these MS WIN type of errors as there will be only a few comps in the car (I have 13 also DD and AS was all OK) ... so GOOD LUCK for you! Hope it will be + in the end.

Didn't your car get pretty badly rear-ended some time ago?

I'm guessing some of your problems may be related to that heavy crash.. Blame your insurance company.

I wasn't that bad. I don't think it did any damage to the electronics and it was over a year ago.

Get rid of it and get a 530i auto NON smg. Probably some weird glitch in your particular car. I doubt manual is going to help anything because I have auto and havent experienced a single tranny problem

Some with SMG havent experienced a single tranny problem either... I have experienced one, which was corrected with CIP V.16.2 and now its doing well (*knock on wood*)

9200 miles on mine and 1 problem. Active steering failed and module replaced by dealer, been fine since.

I have some rattle in rear compartment, but hopefully it will get fixed next trip.
