I ended up with an extra first aid kit, since I got one in Munich at ED (with the triangle) and they told me to take them out before dropping the car for shipping to US. Then when I picked up the car in the states/dealer, the car had another first aid kit in it!!!!!!!

Do you have the partnumber ? I'll ask my dealer if he can install it on mine too. Currently I see where the space is left for the socket, but there is a plastic cover on it. If the socket is under it I want him o put it in...
iceman, which part number do you want? the one for the torch? I can get this for you but when I got mine I just asked the parts guy for a rechargeable torch that fits the E60 glovebox. looks same size as the one i had in my E46, must be same part, so you should be able to get one quite easily.

not sure about the socket being covered up though, mine was not, maybe you'll need to have a quick call to the dealer to ask.

I had to take mine in to be replaced. The switch was intermittent. You turn int on and the switch will not stay forward enough. the new one will be in Wed. If you want Iceman I can ask how much when I pick up the new one.

northernmonkey,

If your socket was not covered up then it will mean that there was a torch there before. So someone must have taken it, as the socket should be covered up in my opinion. So maybe my original thought of only 2004 built cars not having them was true.

Did you buy your car nearly new like me?

yes it was an ex-demo car. i did at first think someone must have taken it out at some point before i bought the car but the parts dept. at my dealer told me in the UK the torch is not now standard and has to be bought (similar to this threads missing first aid kit, seems some coutries have to pay)...go figure. seems like a cost cutting exercise to me.

what I find odd is that this forum seems to highlight that in different countries different bits of cheap accessories, torches, first aid kits etc are not included in all cars as standard. i know different countries have different legal requirements on what must be in the car but you would think with a car like the E60 BMW would just provide every car with first aid kit, warning triangle, torch etc. oh well sign'O'the times as they say.
