Usually when you get one you notice them much more.
that's right. You tend to focus on same model car like what you're driving.

I live in a very small town (population less than 10k) in Mississippi, and I have been very suprised at the number of E60's that started showing up after they were released. My mother even leased herself an '07 525i back in December and she absolutely loves it-and I do too!

I have a used dealer license (me and a friend do this has a hobby of sorts), so I get to see the how many of the '04 models are now coming thru auctions after the lease term is up. There are a TON of them available all over-it is amazing to see how many have been leased/purchased. And you wouldn't believe the prices they are bringing-'04 525 and 530i's in good condition with 40-60k miles can be bought for $24-28k. In fact, my friend just purchased a '04 545i, 6 speed manual, 65k miles, sport pkg, premium pkg, logic 7, cold weather pkg, etc-everything but navigation for under $29k. Sure, it has a few scratches here and there, but a totally clean Carfax and is still very nice overall.

And that brings up another point-the 545i's are only bringing about $3k more than a 525 or 530 on average-for a car that was a lot more when new.

doesn't seem like e60's popularity is growing here in manhattan. i've noticed e60's everywhere here ever since i was first thinking about getting one 2 years ago. on avg, i'd say i see one every 3-5 blocks or so.

I frequently travel to China and you cannot believe the number of 3s, 5s,Xs and 7s on the road. There is an assembly plant in China which is really churning out large numbers of vehicles, but they do not put the eight cylinder into the e-60 there.

Jet190rs, I agree with you, but remember, many of them, like mine, are parked indoors most of the time.

did not know china was that rich and most people make under $50us a month.
"are parked indoors most of the time" that is say, don`t do this to a very nice car or do you have other supercars to drive?

You know that China is "Economy of BIG numbers"? e60 530 cost like 638 000,- RMB (about 77 000,- USD) and 545 831000,- RMB there is lot of people who have that money and many have corporate cars. "Baoma" is status and as You know thay put they last money to get one to show how well they are.

If You are interested of one retailer prices, look here:

I think it depends if you have a way of spending $60-100K more efficiently. In US this often means buying some real estate. However, in some places (in US or otherwise) real estate is way too expensive, so $100K doesn't make much difference and you may need $300K+ to get a new apartment/flat/condo/house. Or perhaps mortgage rates are outrageous as it often seen in developing countries. In such places you'll probably see more luxury cars as people want to get some 'visible' gratification for their work.

Have to say that there is a point. If compare Nanjing, China to Helsinki, Finland:

100m2 three bedroom flat in Nanjing city center same than 530i. In Helsinki 10 x 530i equals similar flat in city center. Mortgage in China 10 to 15% if You can get one. In Finland about 5% at the moment.

Also flat You can not show so easily than shiny BMW!
