I have the 6FL in my car and dealer had the cable. The problem you are having is because you need the cable. The cable was not in my car--I had to go to my salesperson who retrieved it from the parts department. Salesman advised that BMW sends the cable to the parts department separately as BMW fears the cable will be stolen from the cars before delivery. Not sure if that's true or not, but I now have the cable and I love the option.

As for the scrolling issue, yes you have to scroll-- by spinning a large knob located exactly where your hand rests. If having to roll that knob for 10 or so seconds every once in a while is the price I have to pay to have all of my music in my car, ready to be played at my fingertips and whim, I'll take that trade-off.

 

Can I ask a question around the functionality of this.

I have a 60gb Photo Ipod and all I ever use it for is the "shuffle" function. Will the new 6fl option, with the BMW cable allow me to use the ipod in this way and then just move onto the next track via the steering wheel buttons?

You should be able to select RANDOM via iDrive.

 

I have the same problem with my 335i. The dealer (UK) does not know anything about the problem.

I guess I am going to have to get the cable. I can't see why its not included in the standard set up though.

I think you can use smart play lists so that all artists starting with A can be in playlist A etc, this way you can at least create 26 playlists and browse quickly to artist.
