Wow I was checking out bmwusa website and the 0-60 in the 535 is exactly the same as the 550 for a stick and only 1/10th slower for an auto-now that will do nothing for bimmers 550 sales-I mean why would someone get a 550-I am betting the 535 is only 10-20 whp less and probably EASILY modded to skyrocket over the 550

Man I hate my 530 now-thank goodness I only signed a 2 year lease with 1.5 years remaining-argg that is a long time I hate bigger and better things in life

550i STEPTRONIC automatic gear ratios - Final drive ratio 3.38 :1

335i STEPTRONIC automatic gear ratios - Final drive ratio 3.64 :1

I think this accounts for a lot of the reason why the cars are so close in 0-60 times. I would like to see the 0-100 and quarter mile times, where the gearing will be less of an issue. I know that the tuners are saying that putting the higher rear end in the 07 550i truns it into a beast, and is the biggest bang for the buck in terms of perfomance upgrades. Assume same would be true for the 08s.

I am sure the 550 is ultimately the faster machine but for day to day purposes-95 percent of the buyers of these cars will not be racing quarters and 0-100s-rather a sprint to 60 is usually the most spirited the average joe gets in his car and then slows down-so I am saying people that go by test drives will likely think-wow, little difference in acceleration, better gas mileage, 10k less sticker price and lower insurance probably-lots of upsides to the 535 when you look at it like that.

Of course the purist drive enthusiastic will often need the V8 but a lot of the younger new enthusiasts see the twin turbo as having more potential in the speed and tuning department. You all see what the 335 has already been putting down-265-270whp stock-which is in 350 crank range-not really much diff than the 550-

Add to the fact the 535 is lighter-another perk

Where did you see this? The sedan specifications that you can see in the intro show the 535 being .2 slower than the 550 for both the stick and auto - not a huge diff, but not the same either?

on bmwusa.com-just look under technical info/data and you can see manual is 1/10th I believe slower and I believe so is steptronic-dude when you are within 2/10ths you are the same-so 1/10th might as well be considered the same thing.

For me a 535 would not really save me much money and I would rather have the mother ship of the 5 series. I saw an 08 535 at the dealer and was not really impressed with the outside of the car. The wheels were plain and nothing special, so I would have to change those. There is no "M kit" with the car so I would have to spring for that as well. Then add the procede or something else and i really have spent a lot of time and money to change the appearance of the car.

I would not be able to own the 535 without sinking some major coin to fix the things that are sorely lacking. I am sure it is fun to drive, but nothing special to look at. At least with the 550i, its freaking pimp in stock form (with SP) and anyone with a small knowledge of BMW's knows that you bought a hot machine.

I had a 2K difference in price between my ED 550i and a US purchased 535. The car is just meant for a different target. If I was 25 and wanted a 5 series I would go with the 535. At 35 I would rather have the 550i. I can say either way though they are both freaking chick magnets!!!!!!!

I didn't understand how cars could turn heads until I drove my dad's red corvette and every chick we went by had to honk their horn and wave.

535i being 0.2sec slower for both manual and auto....

335i coupe with much lighter overall weight and still gets beaten by 545i.... Where are the chances of a much heavier 535i aginst 550i.....

Plus the V8 engine provides much more torque and linear/smooth power output .. which I believe is essential for full size sedans.....

Turbo petrol engines are trouble makers.... For a daily car, one should definitely stay away from turbo engines....

That was heezy545i (Silver 545i 6-speed) running Walked U (335 sedan 6-speed). Guy that got left in the dust is hollywoodtrash (black 550i SMG). He can't shift worth a lick; misshifted.

Based on dyno sheets I've seen over on e90post, stock 335s are putting down almost the same numbers as the 545i about 275rwhp. 545i comes in around 280rwhp and the 550i about 306rwhp. The 335i weighs about 200 lbs less and its flat torque curve (max torque from 1200 - 5000 rpm) gives it an advantage over the 545i. I do believe though a 550i with a competent driver will beat a stock 335 all day long. Just as long as the 550i is in it's powerband @3500 - 5000 rpm.

From what I've read, the most power Vishnu had ever squeezed, so far, from the n54 motor is 355whp and 405lbft. I don't know what the % lost from the drivetrain but with those power levels at the wheels, it's gonna be a lot of fun... and I'm sure there's more to come from tuners like AA and such.

I'm def sold on the 535i. Love the look of it with basic exterior mods and with that TQ, oh boy.

I just need to decide whether its worth to do the european delivery or just pick one out from the dealer. Any thoughts?
