To start off i have 04 Auto 530i with 135k Miles.
This Morning i went to go start the car, The First thing i noticed was the sound/Tone the car makes when the ignition detects the key was much louder then usual.
I go to start the car like always and nothing.. Not even an attempt to start. Then a bunch of errors pop up on the Idrive.
Transmission error(in Red center display)Gears can be engaged with out depressing the brake. Drive Moderately
Cruise Control Malfunction
ABS Control Systems. Braking and Dynamic response system malfunction.
Have no idea what it could be. I drove the car 2 days ago and everything was fine.
I've had the car since 07' and driven it 110k miles with out much problems at all.
today was the coldest day we've had this year and light snow.
Only known problem i currently have with the car is that my oil filter housing gasket has a slow leak. I have some oil build up along that side of motor that creaped down the sides to the bottom of the motor. I purchased the Gaskets, Just havent got around to installing it.
Besides that the car has been running great. Motor and trans both run smooth.
Battery was replaced 4 months ago and the alternator about a year ago(rebuilt)
I disconnected the battery for almost an hour hoping that it would clear up the errors and maybe start but the errors came right back up.
Any suggestions or ideas of what the problem maybe?? First thing that i thought of was a bad Crank positioning sensor could be a possible cause.
This Really sucks, I have a bunch of family coming from europe for my wedding next month. I could really use the extra car to help get them around or let them drive.
Luckily i purchased a new car a few months back so im not out of a car.
FML!

My Ride: 535d M Sport / Carbon Black Metallic / Aluminium cube / black leather sports seats / Prof. SatNav / Bluetooth.
I had the same set of messages come up a couple of years ago and it was a low battery, I ended up having to replace the battery and it resolved the issue.
Is your replacement battery the right specification? - I have heard of aftermarket batteries not being up to standard.
Why did the battery need replacing 4 months ago?
Your description of cold weather would tie in with the battery as the output drops and the temperature falls...
Maybe disconnet your battery again and charge it up to see if that makes a difference.
Good luck..

I had the exact same problem there was no start no crank and the issue didnt began until my battery died. It ended up being a faulty IBS sensor. I had it removed and the codes went away, car started just fine.
Here is some info on it.. I hope it helps.
