We have 97.000 km's on the car right now.. No problems right now. It drives just like a new car or even better !
We have taken very good care of our E60, and it really feels like a new one. Most of our driving is highway, which dosen't wear as much as short trips down-town. No door dings ! No scratches, always hand washed
Most of the problems we had, was in the first year, and they were mostly software and electronic based. We did get a new gearbox covered by warrenty, since our gearbox was produced with a error in it.
There is 10 E60's for sale in Denmark right now with 250.000-300.000 kms on them (old taxis), and the seems to be running OK, one of them with a new gearbox.
I took a cab last week, a 530dA E61 with 160.000 km's on the odometer, and it felt like a new one in the engine and gearbox.
I'm not afraid of the engine, it will last for many miles/kilometers, if you just maintenance on the car.. I'm more afraid of the gadgets, electrical seats, heatet seats, folding mirrows, Logic 7 and so on....

I am not suprisd if e60's engin can last over 200,000 miles, usually the problem areas are from electrical device.
I am surprised that electronics are to blame for so many of problems or potential problems. Last I check the electronics are not all that sophisticated. We are not putting revolutionary bits in to them are we?
Is there something equivalent to the 'flux capacitor' in our machines that costs a fortune?

Most of the early problems on the E60 were computer/software related. I don't know, these things remind me of any other electronic device today, if the electronics are going to go bad, it generally happens early on. If they last beyond the first year, you should be in good shape, generally. This is why "extended warranties" are so profitable for folks like Best Buy, etc. If an electronic product is going to fail, it will most likley be early on, under the manufacturers' warranty.
Having said that, if I don't trade my '04 545 in for a facelift 550, I'll be buying the extended warranty!
