Mel- Was your flat a RFT? If I get a nail in a RFT can it be repaired or must I replace with a new tire? Can most shops fix/repair a RFT which has a screw or nail in it? Thanks Pat

I had a screw in one of my RFTs - pulled it out and patched it with no problem. That was probably 10k miles ago. I believe as long as it's not too close to the sidewall you're fine.

I really prefer the Porsche TPM system since it gives you the actual psi number for each tire.

On the way home from a party on Sunday night, I get in and get the "low tire pressure" left front tire on iDrive. I pull into the gas station and look at the tire. It looks fine. I check the pressure and it reads 29. (I run 32 in the front) I was pretty impressed that the TPM could pick up a difference of 3 lbs of pressure. Gotta love this car!
It is, but sometime even too sensitive.
Mostly in the winter time, though.

One should check out the tire pressures once a month!

Do you have RFT? Did you have a nail in it? If not, why do you think you lost 3 lbs in one and none in the others? Thanks.

Yep, I have RFT. I simply have not had time to check it out. There may indeed be something in the tire.

I beleive the reason they don't advocate repairing runflats, is the possibility of damage to the side wall, being caused by 'running flat'. the tyre repairers do not know how far the tyre may have been run with zero air pressure in.

I think there is some confusion about this, as back in 04 when I had a puncture, no one would touch the tyre for repair, the just did what the manufacturers told them, i.e. Replace the tyre. Maybe because they were relatively new back then. But since then I even had my Dealer repair the tyre, so long as it wasn't to near the side wall. Though to be fair when I questioned the mechanic about being able to repair them, he said it was now okay to repair apart from one make, can't remember which one though, sorry.

Hard to repair an RFT from what I have read...
I drove for a year with 2 RFT repaired, on my Mini Cooper S: not any trouble.

Mine went off - my front right tire was slowing loosing pressure - turns out it's a hairline crack in the wheel
