Tell I have owned a 2005 RL (came in second in that CD test ) and just traded it in on a 545i with sport etc. There is just no comparision...ride, handling, space etc etc. I drove ALL of the cars in that test and if the cars were equipped the same, and at their current selling price, you would see a different result. Even CD said that in the test.

I am with everyone else, Acura, Lexus, Infinit, they hold up excellent, but I just got my 545 and nothing compares to the excitment of just knowing that you have to wake up and drive that car in the morning. Nothing else I have ever driven as far as a daily driver has compared, nothing will.

Give him the damn sushi or let him take a spin in your car, then he will change his tune

This is an easy argument to win -
Bring each car to a track and see which one is the fastest. Since you're in NJ, I recommend going to Lime Rock or Watkins Glen if you can make the trip.

Your friend is just trying to justify his Acura by comparing it to the BMW, subconsciously he?s agreeing with you , you don't need any proof - he does.

Acura is better if you looking for the most bang for your buck, but then again there is a always a Hyundai or whatever it's called for the fraction of the cost of the Acura, that what it should be compared with.

Your friend is comparing apples to oranges here. Japanese technology is nothing compared to German engineering, or shall we say art. You just cant compare the two, no matter what R&T says. BMW will always be BMW, and Japanese cars will always be grouped with the rest.

THE REASON that Car and Driver rated the 5 series so much lower is because they had a $55,000 price cap on all their tested cars. Well with that price cap, they could only get the 530i without all the nice features. Of course that 530i went up agains the Japanese cars comparable to the 545. The V8 models outperformed the 530i and therefore the car got a lower ranking. It's not really a fair competition in my opinion.

There is a reason the BMW costs $10,000 more than its japanese competition. The moment you sit and drive it, you see why.

Sure if you set the cap to $25,000 you can get the best Kia, and it will rank better than a new BMW at that price (if there is one).

My good friend's girlfiend was arguing with me, and kept telling me that she likes Lexus much more than BMW. The moment I gave her a ride, she shut up, and never spoke of it again.

Not that I am a fan of the new Infiniti (have not driven it yet) but I think the new R&T compared it (and the others) to the 545, not the 530.
