sell the Z for 6k, get a great warrantee for 2k and use 3k to mod up your e60. Take the 2k left over buy a decent suit, take a road trip to some place like Vermont and bring your favorite CDs. Get a nice dinner, a good glass of your favorite booze/wine and engage a kindred soul whom you fancy. Take a deep breath and relize life is a one lap race and money is dirty paper, RIDE THE WAVE WHERE IT TAKES YOU!!!! enjoy life and most certainly enjoy your damn car, its a experiance not just transportation my man.

wow man, you are a real philosophizer. you're absolutely correct....i just turned 40, which means i have 40 yrs left, so why not go out and rail in my v8 bmw and not worry about the small things. the car was a b'day present to myself in a way. only 80 trips around the sun....what a bummer!

vermont is kinda far, i live in north cali. although i've always wanted to visit vermont, especially in autumn.

thanks

Well said!

Vermont is beautiful. My wife and I vacationed there a few weeks ago. It was great.

You're over thinking this, don't worry so much! So long as you have a warranty, you should really just be driving the hell out of the car the way it was intended to be driven and enjoying every minute of it too! Good Luck!
Dude, you're hilarious. I did the EXACT same thing you did last week. I bought an '05 545i SMG Sport with 45K miles, although I think I'm the 3rd owner for just $22.5K....

Yeah, I'm a little wary about driving it aggressively (one of my tires has a cupping issue) and considering winter tires very soon for Chicago driving....

Questions run through my head all the time... Should I tint the windows? Should I consider a cold air intake? Spend some money on a louder muffler?

Or save my money for the costly repairs that will probably come my way...

In the end, it's a joy to drive. Hope you find yours to be the same after a couple more hundred miles or so...

i think you should save the money for repairs, especially with that automatic trans. i had to replace the ZF trans in wifey's A8 at about 85K, that was a $3500 repair. i think that ZF makes the SMG trans for bmw as well.

i do not plan to do any mods to mine except maybe some audio improvements. mine is already having probs in that area. it won't save any audio settings, tone, the last station, the last song, etc. who in hell knows why, i'm sure the stealer would be glad to tell me for a 1000 bucks, and then fix it for another 1000! other than that it seems like a good car.

yes, she traded it on for a new 3 series also with a stick, said she wanted a smaller car. but that is what the salesman told me, so take that with a grain o'salt. i think she got rid of it b/c the warranty expired the same month. i wish there was a way to know when and why it went back to the stealer for service, but that would only add to my paranoia!

on another note, i love that it has no timing belt. when i took my wifes A8 to have the belt changed they didn't set the tensioner correctly and bent all the intake valves on bank 2. they rebuilt both heads, but i feel that it will never be the same again. i would have done the belt myself but by the time i bought all the special tools i wouldn't have saved any money. i've done several belts on japanese cars and am quite comfortable doing it. just one less concern for my 545i.

When a car is used by husband and wife it's common for it to be registered in the wife's name,it's a good selling point!

damn i wish you hadn't said that. i was already prepared to sell my z32 TT. i fear one day i'll wake up and really regret not having it.

you're correct...so ahead of its time. i wonder if they will ever be collectible cars still worth big bucks like the turbo supras already are?

mine is stage II, jwt ecu, exhaust, gutted precats. it must have close to 400 hp at the wheels. i wonder how much its worth, 5k maybe?

one would have to spend 60 or 70k nowadays to get that kind of hp.
I might be interested in your Z. what year and mileage?

I spent over $50k to get 435 wheels in a 2006 Mustang Convertible.

It's for sale, BTW.. Appraised at $49,500 spring of 2008, asking $38,500. Has ~29k miles.

Regarding your driver's fear/buyer's remorse: I bought my 2004 545 in February. Had 58k on it, got it CPO'd for $24k loaded. Now it's got over 70k on it. I beat it, daily. Don't worry about it.
