After 700 miles, I have a couple of quirks with me e60. Both happen intermittently, but consistently. First, there have been four occasions where I have put my car in automatic mode, begun driving, and the vehicle switches to manual mode for no apparent reason. In each instance I did not notice it until I attempted to accelerate and the vehicle wasn't shifting.
Second, on at least three occasions my idrive screen has gone blank, shutting off all functions (radio, ventilation, etc.). It resets itself after a few minutes, but it is extremely annoying.
Finally, the plastic housing around my rearview mirror keeps coming apart (it is comprised of two plastic parts that snap together), resulting in the parts hanging from the rearview mirror and rattling.
I have not taken my car to the dealer yet, but I was curious as to whether anyone else has experience dealing with these issues.
I hope you are all enjoying your holidays.

The SMG automatic mode will be automatically cancelled if you use one of the paddles or shift manually.
Any chance you accidentally bumped a paddle?

Thanks for the suggestion Rudy. I am aware that manual shifting in automatic mode will result in the transmission going into manual mode, but there is no chance I bumped a paddle or the shift. In fact, on two of the occasions I was with someone who noticed the unplanned transition to manual mode and confirmed that I did not hit the paddles. It is really strange.
