i know there was some discussion on this forum about what is running in our idrive - there was even talk about how the idrive in the 7-er & in our e60's being dif. One has a JAVA frontend & the other apparently is pure embedded windows. I think there was talk that the 7-er version is the JAVA one.
even if ours is running embedded windows - the apps would probably be compiled down to binary - so nearly impossible to change the screen widgets or screen designs. Unless it's like embedded VB or VC on pocketpc where the code is interpreted at runtime & not compiled (Which may explain performance issues) then perhaps you can change the contents of the forms - but it would risky if you accidentally corrupt the code
also - i am inclined to think that software modules of this nature tends to be calling very low level subroutines - so really unlikely to be able to just change things easily
anyhow, overall i think the interface is very pleasing - and i agree with 555 - the idrive looks cool enuff as it is.

My Ride: E61 525d ´06, still to be delivered...
Some people like the looks of iDrive as it is, others don?t. If you dislike your standards rims, you can buy new ones. A new iDrive look can?t be bought that easily. And that?s to bad...
