How do you "register" a battery

"Register" and "code" are both terms used to describe the way you enter the new battery info into the bmw software. So the car "acknowledges" the way the new battery needs to be charged and used.
in order to do that you need to take the car to the $tealership and have a tech do it for you or just go to an indy shop.
i use to code my car on my own and have never registered a battery. No issues so far. Many of the services "required" by the manufacturer are simply a way to rip off your pockets.
