IBS (negative terminal electrical wiring)
Battery (if over 5 years old) - look at the color code in the trunk, green/black/yellow
Alternator (if battery is new) - get checked, autozone or other

I was having the same issues three days ago. Checked the battery (black - not charging). Took it to my local indy, tested the alternator (it was fine), replaced the battery (7 years old), and has been driving well since. No issues after sitting over night in the garage. My next thought would have been the IBS. But nothing has happened since. Problem resolved.

Hope this helps.

If your battery was 7 years old, it was time.

I was used to a 97' 5er where a good 10 years was always possible. These electronics are ridiculous these days...but in a good way (minus the electronic dipstick).

Thank you for the info! Will change the battery soon then. Will i face any issues after replacing the battery though? Just got the car so no clues about an E60..

i had the same issue. it was the battery, 6 years old. I replaced it and the problem was solved. Registration of the battery is optional. When i bought my car 6 years ago the battery was damaged and i replaced it, never registered it and lasted all this time until now.

good luck
