My dealer is giving me a hardtime with iDrive reprogramming. Im the second owner of BMW 530i ( 2004 ) and 2 months ago I had purchased the Extended warranty from the dealer paying 2800$. 2 weeks ago my iDrive stopped working and when I left with the dealer for service today, they came back and said the reprogramming ( because of some faulty codes ) is not covered .
Im totally pissed. I paid 2800$ for the warrantly and now Im being told that its not covered. Has anybody had this kind of experience. Im asked to pay up 500$ ( for inspecting and reprogramming ).

Thanks
Manjunath

whats the error code that you are having ?
When you say it stopped working, does it completely turn off or what?

The display screen just shows BMW. No other menus appear.

Unfortunately you have to be very careful with the BMW (and third party) warranty. It does EXCLUDE electronics, including the iDrive system. That was a major reason I eventually opted to sell my 545, which I loved, and get a new 550...

Maybe try with other dealers and see which is cheaper. At least it helps,

$500 is pretty steep for reprogramming your idrive. I mean all they have to do i think is click a button on their computer.

If only it was that easy, there is alot of work they do after the upgrade to ensure all the systems work. Mine took over 8 hours of labor total.
