Gary: good point and why can't the radio function open up automatically to where you left off the last time idrive was accessed. Currently I have to to entertainment and select FM or CD to get there. BMW must have assumed that most people set up the FM presets and don't need the idrive thereafter; just use the steering wheel control. But with CD it's torture. The US dealers do not have the CD changer as yet and the price $450-650 installed is unreasonable; with no aftermarket possibilities because idrive will not recognize it.

Yeah, it's like they did all their useability testing with the single CD units and the changer is an afterthought. Good thing is that they can always update the software, what worries me is if it takes most of a day to change then I doubt dealers will be very keen to update software everytime the car is in for a service unless you have a specific problem.

Earlier this week, the passenger seatbelt warning system came on, despite having no passenger and I could only stop it by plugging in the passenger seatbelt.

In the States there is a disclaimer-warning (that caution must be exercised by the user of idrive) that appears on the idrive screen at each startup. It must be "accepted" by pressing the controller before you can access the system. Must be a DOT (Department of Transportation) requirement here. British government must have greater faith/trust in its citizens than ours to exercise good judgment and common sense.

Rather than complain about the iDrive concept, why not discuss ways to improve it; if BMW was unable to design an elegant and intuitive software package on their first try, perhaps they will incorporate our comments/suggestions into future software patches.
