it happened today for me also!!!! 
i started car but the screen was dead.
the screen came on little late sometimes but never dead before. so while i was
driving i pressed the controller and the screen came on but there was nothing. just
blank screen. so i stopped at the gas station for and turned off the
engine for a minute and restarted but it was same,just blank screen. so i drove it
about over an hour and i stopped my car and tured off the engine and waited
about 10~15 minuted and started engine again and it worked. didnt have any
problems after that today but im sure theres something wrong. i made a
appoinment for a service at the dealer today before i had this problem to fix the
other problems i had before. i have all the problems most of u guys had but i was little lazy 2
get the sevice but i finally did it on online today. my car is only two months old
and have alot of problems.is it possible 2 ask them for a new car, like 05
model??? my car is a lease, is it possible 2 ask dealer my problems and ask trade
in for a new 530 wit payng more payment?(mines 525)

i started this thread.
my problems started the same way yours did. after a few days - even restarting the car did not help. the cd player & FM started to breakup....
th car's been in the dealer for 1 week now - they don't know what's wrong - they just ordered a total replacement from Germany.
my instrument cluster also acted up.

. they'll probably give you a bit discount off the new one but don't expect too much since your car isn't "problematic" compare to others.

after 3 days in the workshop - was finally informed that the fault was for a control module in the iDrive (whatever that is...) & the parts would have to be indented from Germany.
