Hi Guys,

I had a vibration in my 2006 bmw 530i that happened after every 3 minutes and when I brought it to a certified bmw mechanic, they said it was harmonic balancer problem and I needed a new one. They changed it for me and now, after starting up the car for a minute, there is this very low, constant shaking that you can feel on the wheel and the pedal. I brought it back to them and now they are saying that it's because of a weight or something on my exhaust system needs to be changed to a different weight after your car gets a bit older. Do you think this is the case or maybe they did something wrong with my harmonic balancer? I'm thinking of bringing it to the dealer to have them diagnose the problem. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I think the mechanic is unbalanced!! Get your money back and take thee to a qualified BMW indy or Dealer.

I also have this issue in 2006 530. There is a certain amount of vibration when the engine is cold. It does go away when the engine is fully warmed up but in cold days it may not fully go away. Possible areas to look at are engine and transmission mounts. But, the likely culprit is the eccentric shaft that controls valve lift. I think BMW reported improper tolerances on the shaft is the cause of the vibration. The only solution then is to change it.

As pointed by other member (above), I would look at engine mounts and trans mount.
