You wouldn't expect a SUV (oh--sorry--sport activity vehicle ) to handle like a car, but the steering difference was pretty dramatic--I haven't had to do so many hand-over-hand turns since I got my 545i.? It almost--not quite--felt like the difference between power assisted steering and manual steering.

stream, I've got the same thing. My car is in for replacing the TCU and reload of the CIP, and I got an X3. The steering is the same way, duller and less powerful. I also realize now how tight a radius the 5series does, and is great for small space turns. The X3 is kinda fun though with enough pep and go. I especially like the full sun roof.

Me three. Had a 525 w/o AS as a loaner for 2 days. What a difference. I do not track my car where AS might be a detriment, but I would not consider getting the car without AS.

We -are- talking about an SUV guys...

I wonder how you'd feel if you had a chance to drive my car. Sport + regular steering.

[/quote]This is a good one, and I can't pretend to know (have not driven sport pack without AS) -- BUT, I really like active steer. If for no other reason, it makes getting into my tiny garage from my short-radius driveway a snap!

I'm not an SUV person, but as SUVs go, it's a nice one. And the panorama roof is nice.

You should feel the difference between an X5 3.0i and X5 4.6is! The 3.0i is much heavier!

Still neither is the same as AS!

AS is great, but the heavier, meaty steering of other BMWs does feel good at times.
