It sounds like everything is working as designed...did you read my earlier post (#4)?

Yes, I read it Rudy, but I'm not sure that explains it - I leave work at the same time everyday. The sun's position is about the same (except for normal changes that come with the seasons).

Is the sun's position directly above or lower in the sky? What exactly is your question? Is it the fact that the headlights turn on at all or the fact that the DRLs are on when the headlights are not?

My questions is: Why do the headlights themselves turn on some days and others not. Sometimes the DRL's are on and the headlights work under bridges an overpasses. Other times the headlights come on and stay on even when directly facing the sun, this has alternated daily the last week - it's weird.

Only when it's time to get an M5, the car has a couple of niggling problems (like the rattle coming from the lower left of the steering wheel on the freeway) and the headlight thing, but I really love my car. It may be an I6 but it feels like it has plenty of power and gets going plenty fast enough for me, it can only be replaced by an M.

Considering that the car is working as designed, why not?

First off, thanks for the wealth of info Rudy. I got my SA to adjust the sensitivity under warranty, but my lights still have a mind of there own. I've decided to do it the old fashioned way and forget the auto lights.
will

I'm in the same situation. My Solar Powered Lights for the back yard that I got from Home Depot seem to work as designed- they go on and off when they should. Maybe we should hook that up to our cars

Maybe we can go back to the early days of Cadillac's "Twilight Sentinel" automatic headlight option.

You'd drive into a tunnel and about three-quarters of the way through it, the lights would finally come on, just in time for you to leave the tunnel where the lights would then stay on for another half-mile or so...
