It should be kinda like the dash display on the E39. If you held in the end button on the stalk, the NAV screen would pop up what you'd like to keep on or off for the various things it could display like clock, mileage, destiantion, mpg, range, etc.

I only liked to have Range displayed and everything else off. With SMG, it would be INVALUABLE to know WTF gear you are in!

It certainly would be easy enough to do for Steptronic and SMG cars, but maybe not so for full manual transmission cars...so perhaps the comlexity of the different transmissions made them decide to leave it off completely. Now, to have radar warning on the HUD would be cool!!!!! Stealth One has kits that can display on NAV for some BMW's so, it may also display on HUD when they finally get the coding done for the E60.
