HPFP Failure FAQ
#11
I am on my second failed HPFP fuel pump in under 1K miles.
Regardless of how often the dealership will fix it, it is still a hassle. I am 40-50 miles from my dealer and they don't always have a loaner.
Thanks for the info though. now, if we could get techs to come fix this problem in our driveways, i could live with it.

FYI, I have just emailed BMWNA regarding my second HPFP failure:

Your offer was gracious, but my choosing to accept would indicate that I am satisfied with BMW and accept your apologies for my hardship. I am hoping to make it through the holidays and currently researching Florida statutes with regards to lemon laws before determining if it is neccessary to contact a lawyer.
I look forward to future correspondance, as you have been helpful within your means. I will provide you with an update after contacting the dealership and/or a lawyer.
Very Respectfully,

I figured if you want this thread to be your HPFP FAQ location I would post all the related SIBs in one location. They may, in fact, already be sprinkled around the board but this would benefit those doing a search much more completely.
So here goes:
SIB_130709_N54_Long_Crank.pdf
SIB_130809_TeileClearing_for_N54_Fuel_System.pdf
SIB_130509_N54_FC_2AAF_Diagnosis.pdf

SIB_122509_TeileClearing_N54_Drivability_Concerns.pdf
SIB_120208_N54_DME_Fuel_Injector_Faults_Diagnosis.pdf
These two are not directly related and I am not trying to start some debate, but I think some new owners or those thinking of purchasing used cars with tuning kits already installed should be made aware of BMWs stance on what they term "tuning kits"

Thank you for the post. I guess this answers the question on which car is better; the 535 or 550?

Thanks every one for the PDF's I'll be updating the first post accordingly. ( is there some thing special I have to do to edit the first post, it won't let me do that now)
PS: If you had the injectors replaced with out he HPFP, you will end up going back soon enough for the HPFP 9/10 times.
There is no New batch yet that is confirmed not to Fail. I think we are on version 6 or 7 of this part since the introduction in 06.
Also if you had only ONE or TWO injectors replaced out of the full set , you will most likely end up get the rest replaced at one time or another some time soon. From the discussions I've had , the underlying reason that the injectors go bad is that they are getting starved for gas. So if one was damaged , good bet all of them will have some abnormally short longevity.

actually no it does not, both models have some problems...just seems the hpfp is more talked about as of late..the 535i vs 550 discussion does not need to be revived in this thread....stay on topic please...
