I cleaned my Throttle body and MAF sensor, and since then the throttle has been idling very high at 1,200 RPM. This happens after the car has warmed up. I was told that this is most likely not a MAF issue, and that the adaptation needs to be reset.

After researching how to reset the adaption values, it is my understanding that you have to have a BMW service center or mechanic do it. I called my BMW dealership, and asked them how much it would cost to have it done, and according to the mechanic, on the e60, to reset the adaptation, all you have to do is turn the key in the on position for 30 seconds without starting the car, then turn it back to the original position, and then start it. I thought this was for older BMWs but he was sure this is how to do it on the e60.

Anyone know how to reset the adaptation, or why the car could be idling high after cleaning the MAF and throttle body?

Any chance the AC is on? That causes a higher idle. Otherwise, there could be something on the MAF affecting the mixture (but that really shouldn't change the idle that much).

Did you try what the tech said? The procedure sounds pretty simple, and you should be able determine if it works or not pretty quickly.

There have been some other "high idling" threads on the board. Try and search these for some additional information.

I don't recall seeing anything on "throttle adaptation" before. The only adaptation I have seen discussed is associated with the auto tranny.

When the car is idling at 1,000 RPM and I turn on the AC, it drops down to 800 RPM

I tried what the tech said multiple times and it has made no difference.
I tried searching for high idling threads and could not find any useful information.
